Research: Music Genre Popularity.

I would personally say that the 'singer/songwriter' genre is quite a popular genre. This is because of how I think audiences are slowly realising how artists take time and effort into their songs, and I do think that indie music is being more appreciated because of the indie fashion. I do think that more and more people are starting to enjoy it, with the fact that it is softer music and sometimes acoustic.
In the charts at the minute I do think that our genre is popular and listened to a lot, however they may not use the same stereotypical idea of black and white backgrounds, and having the mood quite serious.

For example, Olly Murs comes under the singer/songwriter genre but his videos are rather bright and upbeat to accompany the song. This is also the same as James Morrison.

Through research the singer/songwriter genre has been around for about 40 years, and was frequently misinterpreted, however it is becoming more and more popular in different ways. It is quite a confusing genre as most artists do write and record their own songs, and was impossible to name, it did came more popular thanks to a rendition of Dylan's tame original of "All Along The Watchtower".

This music genre is definitely a mainstream text. It is starting to dominate the charts, and becoming more and more liked by more people. I think the audience for this genre can be from 15-35, this is because I personally think it appeals to all ages. Some of the songs can be soft and slow paced, or fast and upbeat, but is still something interesting to listen to especially if it is acoustic.
